It was happening in the year of 2012, Dr. Darin, a 24 weeks pregnant lady flew from Bangkok to visit her husband at Walnut Creeks, a beautiful district of California. A few days later, she had got the “obstetrical hemorrhage” (bleeding during pregnancy) and went to check up at the nearest place, John Muir Medical Center, 5 minutes away from home. The result came out with a concern as she had to make an urgent decision to give a premature birth with 50% chances of survival. 

On October 27, 2012, the baby girl was delivered by Dr. Gerald F. Katz as a tiny infant with 555 grams, she must stay in an emergency room called “Neonatal Intensive Care Unit” or NICU. The baby’s name is Lynla, which came from a cute girl character in Thai children’s book “Lynla Narak”.

Day by day had passed, it was an extremely tough time for the couple. The new mom started her own blog to keep up with her daughter’s development and give some advices for other preemie’s parents. She also created Lynlanarak Facebook Page  for the community of premature baby’s parents.

This is the story of Pe’ or Dr. Darin Jaturapatporn, a former physician at Ramathibodi Hospital who was graduated among the first generation of “Family Doctor” in Bangkok. She always had a full schedule just like other physician and was often invited as guest speaker in many countries.

Apart from her career, she spent an extra time inspiring people
thorough her beautiful poems, song composing, writing, and many more. She had
published free copy books with illustration called “Palliative Care”,
advising the way of how family members or friends support the patients
with advance disease such as cancer.

A few months before the incident,  I had a chance to meet up with her.
She is a positive person, excellent listener who could  greatly initiate
the conversation, remarkably generous, and wide open minded.

Until now, I have caught up with her journals and became a big fan of little
Lynla. Well, she is the real person with direct experience, creating the true
inspiration of life’s appreciation.

เธอเป็นหมอค่ะ ….
หมอที่มีความฝันหลายด้านหลายอย่างเหลือเกิน
ไม่ต่างกับต้นไม้หนึ่งต้นที่ค่อยๆผลิดอก ออกผลตามกาลเวลา
ไม่ว่าจะเป็น ด้านการแต่งเพลง การเขียน การช่วยเหลือสังคม
หรือเสริมแรงบันดาลใจ ซึ่งหากจะบรรยายสิ่งเหล่านี้ให้หมด
คงจะต้องพิมพ์เป็นหนังสือชีวประวัติสัก 1 เล่มหนาๆกันเลยค่ะ

ในนั้นเห็นจะต้องประกอบด้วยบทสัมภาษณ์หลายคำถามเลยทีเดียว
ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องราวของการผลักดันเวชศาสตร์ครอบครัว ประสบการณ์ในการถูกเชิญไปเป็น guest speakerในหลายๆประเทศหรือ แรงบันดาลใจในการทำหนังสือการ์ตูนแจกฟรี
เรื่อง “สุข รัก เข้าใจ ในช่วงสุดท้ายของชีวิต”หรือแม้กระทั่ง
ช่วงเวลาการนั่งฟังเรื่องราวอันแสนยาวของผู้ป่วยแต่ละคน

ผู้เขียนได้มีโอกาสไปนั่งพูดคุยค่ะ และบอกได้ว่าหากคุณได้เป็นหนึ่งคนที่ได้ร่วมสนทนากับเธอ ด้วยความที่เธอเป็นผู้ฟังและผู้ถามที่ดีมากจนคุณจะรู้สึกเสมือนตัวเรากลายเป็นบุคคลสำคัญไปเลยค่ะ
ซึ่งมันอาจกลายเป็นคำตอบลึกๆ ว่าทำไมเวลาที่เธอประสบความท้าทายในชีวิต
เธอได้รับกำลังใจล้นหลามจากผู้คนรอบตัวเธอ

ซึ่งหนึ่งในความท้าท้ายนั้น เกิดขึ้นในปี 2012 ช่วงระหว่างที่
เธอบินไปเยี่ยมสามี ที่ Walnut Creek รัฐแคลิฟอร์เนีย
ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา เป็นช่วงเวลาที่เธอกำลังตั้งครรภ์ได้
24 สัปดาห์ แต่มีเหตุให้เธอต้องคลอดลูกก่อนกำหนดซึ่ง
โอกาสรอดคือ 50/50 ค่ะ ซึ่งผลเป็นที่น่าพอใจเมื่อ
“ลินลา” เด็กผู้หญิงตัวจิ๋วได้ออกมาร้องไห้จ้าได้อย่างปลอดภัย
ก่อนที่พยาบาลรีบนำไปดูแลต่อในตู้อบที่
“Neonatal Intensive Care Unit” หรือ NICU.
จนมั่นใจว่าสามารถหายใจได้เองและแข็งแรงพอ

การดูแลคราวนี้ ทั้งครอบครัวได้ก้าวข้ามแต่ละด่านไปได้อย่างสวยงามค่ะ
สิ่งเหล่านี้ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงเพราะเทคโนโลยี หรือ จังหวะอันดีเท่านั้น
หากแต่มาจากพลังใจ พลังกายของพ่อ แม่ ลูก และกำลังใจจากผู้คนรอบตัวเป็นสำคัญ
